Germany Student Visa – Blocked Account Amount for 2025 / 26

If you're planning to study in Germany, it's important to understand the financial requirement for your student visa. One of the key documents required is a Blocked Account (Sperrkonto), which proves that you can support yourself financially while living in Germany.

Updated Blocked Account Requirement for 2025:

  • Total Amount Required Per Year: €11,904

  • Monthly Living Expenses: €992

This amount is set by the German Federal Foreign Office and is a mandatory part of your visa application. You must deposit this amount in a German blocked account before applying for a student visa.

What is a Blocked Account?

A Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) is a special bank account where the student deposits funds for one year to cover monthly living expenses. Once in Germany, students can withdraw up to €992 per month to manage their living costs.

Why is it Important?

  • It shows German authorities that you are financially prepared to live and study in the country.

  • It is a visa requirement for all non-EU international students.

  • Without it, your student visa application will be rejected.
